A right triangle is removed from a rectangle as shown in the figure. Find the area of the remaining part of the rectangle. [Area of a triangle = 1/2(b)(h)]
I recently answered this question. I found the same problem with its corresponding image.
The rectangle has a length of 8 inches and width of 6 inches. The right triangle was taken from the width. Its short leg measures 2 inches and the remainder of the width was 2 inches.
Area of the rectangle = Length x Width A = 8 inches * 6 inches A = 48 square inches.
Area of a right triangle = 1/2 a h a is the short leg = 2 inches h is the long leg = width - remainder of the width = 6 in. - 2 in. = 4 inches.
Area = 1/2 * 2 in. * 4in. Area = (1*2*4)/2 A = 8/2 A = 4 square inches.
Area of Rectangle - Area of Triangle = Area of remaining figure.
