4 = [tex] \frac{a}{4} [/tex] + 2 Subtract 2 from both sides
4 = [tex] \frac{a}{4} [/tex] Multiply both sides by 4
16 = a Switch the sides to make it easier to read
a = 16

Flip the equation for easier solving.
a/4 + 2 = 6
Subtract 2 from both sides because of the +2.
a/4 = 4
Now multiply by 4 to reverse the division.
4 x 4 = 16
a = 16
